Hector De Smet began making frames in light, high-quality steel tubing. His frames were so good that they soon found their way into professional cycling, where Thompson was continuously part of this peloton at the highest level between 1929 and 1959. During this period, as many as 396 victories were won on a Thompson bike in the top category and a multiple of these in youth races and fanciers (independents). Hector's own geometry was highly sought after by top players such as Achiel Buysse, Briek Schotte, Georges Claes, Roger Decock, Valère Ollivier , ...
Tour of Flanders( 1940,1941,1942,1943,1952); Paris-Roubaix(1946,1947); Ghent-Wevelgem; Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, Championships; Tours... In 1942, it even won the team time trial of the "Circuit de France" (replacement for the tour that year). And we could go on and on, because the list is long.
THE FUTURE
Luc De Smet stepped into the story of carbon road bikes in 2005. The first model was called Maestro. And history repeated itself. We were quickly discovered again by riders and several teams came knocking to ride Thompson bikes to be able to ride. Victories on a Thompson bike also piled back up. With our own training team, we won the Tour of Flanders for U19 in 2009. In the same year, we were also "victory king". The year before in 2008, we had a women's U19 world champion on a Thompson bike.
In 2018, with our anniversary approaching, Tim De Smet felt we could not let this go unnoticed. He commissioned our engineers to create a frame, which we would develop back from scratch. The "CENTURY" project. With its own geometry, which our founder Hector was known for. We wanted to create something to celebrate our anniversary with dignity. After hours of drawing, modelling and rough 3D proto types and wind tunnel testing, we arrived at the finished frame that we are proud to call Falcon. And in a limited edition of 100 pieces "CENTURY".
THE DESIGN
The "CENTURY" would be built completely from scratch, with details being very important. Several designs were proposed during the first phase of the project. After hours of drawing, a
Although the 3D design provided a good basis to build on, several modifications were needed. We therefore decided to make a full-size 3D print to be made. This print served as a concept model for further fine-tuning to the smallest details.
Wind tunnel testing
After many revisions and modifications, the project was ready for production. The final frame was tested in the wind tunnel and found to be good
