Sizing race bike.    "Surely your 56 is not 56"
It's a comment we hear a lot. She is absolutely right! Since the advent of scrapping frames, the known sizes of the past really have no value anymore. So how can you know what size you need ? Bikefitting is of course a possibility, but how can you easily transfer your measurements to a new bike if you are already incredibly comfortable on your current one?
Well there's a simple solution to that! #Stack, #Reach and #Saddle height! That's all you need to correctly compare 2 bikes (your old and your future bike).
How to easily determine #STACK and #REACH ?
Place your bike in the corner. Your front wheel touches the front wall, your handlebars the back one. Now you need to measure 4 measurements. 2 horizontal and 2 vertical.
#STACK
Measure from the centre of your bottom bracket to the ground.
Measure from the centre of your steering head at the top of the frame to the ground.
IF YOU SUBTRACT THESE 2 VALUES THEN YOU HAVE THE #STACK Always make sure your bike is nice and straight and that your gauge is vertically level.
#REACH
Measure the centre of your steering head to the front wall.
Measure from the centre of your bottom bracket to the front wall.
IF YOU SUBTRACT THESE 2 VALUES THEN YOU HAVE THE #REACH Always make sure your bike is nice and straight and that your gauge is horizontally level.
#Z SADDLE HEIGHT
Measure from the top of your saddle to the centre of the bottom bracket. Try to measure as parallel to your seat tube as possible.
Before proceeding to determine your bike size, you should also check the length of your stem and how many mm of spacer are underneath.
With this data, you are ready to decide which size suits you best.
Few spacers, not too long or too short stem and a nice ratio between seatpost and frame!
